Abstract:

The IAU has introduced the International Celestial Reference System (ICRS), the Celestial Intermediate Pole (CIP), and the Celestial Intermediate Origin (CIO) in order to be consistent with the improved accuracies currently achieved and expected in the future. Consequently, we have various new definitions, models, and methods in fundamental astronomy and Earth rotation models (precession, nutation, and EOP). In this talk I will give introduction to modern fundamental reference systems realized by geodetic VLBI and Gaia, the terrestrial-to-celestial reference frame transformation with IAU parameterization, and the foundations of the standard IAU2006 precession-nutation models. I will also present our recent works on reference frames, precession models, and EOP based on these new principles.

Bio:

Dr. Jia-Cheng Liu is now professor and doctoral supervisor at School of Astronomy and Space Science, Nanjing University and one of the deputy directors of the astrometry commission, Chinese Astronomical Society. Dr. Liu visited SYTRE at Paris observatory as a joint PhD student from 2011.9 to 2012.9, and received PhD degree in astronomy in 2012. He was a visiting scholar at the Mullard Space Science Laboratory (UCL, London) in 2017. The research interest includes theories in astrometry, astronomical reference frames, Earth’s rotation models, and the application of VLBI and Gaia data. Dr. Liu is now editor board member of Journal <Progress in Astronomy> since 2023 and <Acta Astronomica Sinica> since 2020.
