Jean-Paul Kneib is a Professor in the Astronomy Department of the School of Physics at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). He obtained his Master's and PhD degrees from the University of Toulouse in France. He has served as a visiting professor at the California Institute of Technology and was the Principal Investigator of the SDSS-IV eBOSS project. He is currently involved in the DESI survey project and the MUST survey project led by Tsinghua University. He is the co-lead of the Euclid Strong Gravitational Lensing Working Group and the Principal Investigator of the 4MOST Cosmological Redshift Survey. His Google Scholar citations have reached 100,000, with an H-index of 147. His research interests include cosmology, strong gravitational lensing, large-scale structure, radio astronomy, and fiber positioning control systems.

Prof. Jean-Paul will give a brief introduction to the history of cosmology, the topics it studies, current cutting-edge research directions, and major ongoing and upcoming large-scale sky survey projects around the world.
